Add it to your home screen (one minute)

You can use the prompter straight from a browser tab, but a home-screen icon opens it full-screen, without Safari's toolbars, and remembers your settings.

1. Open sayscroll.com in Safari.
2. Tap the Share button, then "Add to Home Screen", then Add.
3. Launch it from the icon. The first time you press Present, allow the microphone (and camera, if you plan to record).

Film and read on one phone

Recording a vertical video for Reels, Shorts, or TikTok? Turn on the built-in recorder and film yourself inside the prompter. In the overlay layout the script sits on top of your camera preview, so your eyes stay within a few centimetres of the lens; in the split layout the text is above the preview.

• Portrait: the natural choice for vertical video — a narrow column of large text reads well at arm's length.
• Landscape: better for widescreen YouTube on a phone; keep the text column narrow and centred under the lens.
• Front camera: the lens is at the top of the screen, so put the text near the top of the column and keep the phone at eye height.

Record as many takes as you like, then save the keepers: on iPhone each take goes to Photos through the share sheet as an MP4. Nothing is uploaded — the video never leaves your phone.

Mounting: distance and eye line

The phone's microphone and camera are both fine at arm's length — about 50–70 cm. Further than about a metre and the built-in mic starts picking up the room more than you; closer and the wide lens distorts.

Microphone and permissions on iOS

If the text does not move when you speak, it is nearly always a permission. iOS asks per browser and per site.

• Safari: when the prompt appears, tap Allow. To change it later: Settings → Safari → Microphone (and Camera) → Allow, then reload the page.
• Chrome and other iOS browsers: allow in the in-app prompt; the choice is stored per site.
• AirPods and headsets: connect before pressing Present so the browser picks them up as the input.
• Silent switch and volume: neither affects the microphone; they only affect playback of your takes.

What to expect from voice tracking on a phone

Tracking on iPhone is the same engine as on desktop: the text moves at your pace, waits when you pause, and re-syncs when you repeat a line or come back from an ad-lib. The microphone pauses itself after 30 seconds of silence; tap Resume to continue.

How long a phone script should be

Vertical video is short, and the free demo's 700-character limit covers most of it. Sizing the script before you record saves takes.

Limits worth knowing

Two honest caveats. Voice following needs a connection, because speech is transcribed live — a phone signal is enough. And if you switch apps mid-take, iOS may pause the microphone; come back to the prompter and tap Resume.
